During your stay
For many of our guests, glamping itself is the adventure. Many an hour can be spent simply soaking in the view and enjoying the peace and quiet. However, for those who like to venture out, we’ve also provided some suggestions for places you might like to visit.
The local area
Wye Glamping is well located for access to many activities including pony trekking, canoeing and walking. We are about 4 miles from Hay on Wye and 10 miles from Brecon, both picturesque market towns, perfect for an afternoon’s mooch!
We are situated on the edge of Velindre, a small village containing a traditional village pub (The Three Horseshoes), and a couple of small play parks.
The closest shop is a short drive away in the village of Talgarth, where you’ll find a small but well stocked Co-op, a butchers, deli and bakers. For more substantial food shopping we’d recommend a visit to Hay on Wye, where you’ll find a wide range of independent shops as well as a decent sized Co-op.
Things to do onsite
Build a dam in the stream or fairy garden in the trees: Children often spend hours simply running free and using their imagination.
Toast marshmallows under the stars: Firepits and logs are supplied, you just need to bring the marshmallows! We are in a Dark Skies Reserve which basically means it’s an awesome spot for stargazing.
Play cards or board games: A small selection of games can be found in each glamping unit for you to enjoy.
Lounge in the hammock and enjoy the sound of a babbling brook: The peace and quiet really is glorious.
Within walking distance
Visit the local park: Velindre has two, the one closest to us has a large area for playing games and a small bike trail, the other one in the village has more ‘play’ equipment.
Walk on Velindre Common: Just a 20min walk from Wye Glamping, you can experience 180 degree views of the local area. Turn right at the pub, follow the road until you reach the children’s play park. Opposite this is a lane with a domestic postbox at the end. Follow this lane to the top! You’ll walk through some woodland and lots of Bracken until it all opens up around you and you find yourself in the mountain range.
Local forestry walk: Again, turn right at the pub, head up into the village, past the children’s play park and just after the red brick houses is a left turn, down across a ford. Simply follow the road up through the forestry. If you’re lucky you’ll encounter the pigs, chickens and even a donkey in a field on the way up.
